New contracts for Suez Environnement in China

By winning 4 new contracts in water and wasterwater domain, Suez Environnement continues its strategical offensive in China, while the country is directing to a sustainable development policy.

A full orders-book:

Suez Environnement is more than ever present in China: Macao and Tianjin sign with Degremont for the construction of two drinkable water plants, a investment of 13,5 and 6,5 millions of euros.

The plant of Macao will use the most recent technology and thus face the needs of 480 000 citizens. The one at Tianjin will supply a new district (2300 km²) which aims to be one of the economic spot of the nothern China. Changshu (along the Yang-Tse river) also choose Suez for the management of the drinkable water(production to customers service) with a 30 years contract.

Suez Environnement confirms its position in the industrial field by signing a tenth contract with a chinese iron and steel group about the construction of a treatment plant for wastewater reuse.

The new challenge of China:

After 15 years of an intensiv industrial growth and a running urbanization, China must now faces heavy environmental problems. chinese authorities have decided to react and asset to 100 billions of euros the needed investments for the 5 next years. These invesments concern potable water treatment, reuse of wastewater and environment protection. Laws for protecting natural resources harden. ” Environmental stakes about water and pollution management take up a great deal in the national policy agenda.” said Jean-Louis Chaussade, Suez Environnement General Director.

The new environment market in this giant industrial country is an opportunity of the development of Suez in Asia[...] Sino-French holding, the subsiadiary of Suez created in a partnership with New Wolrd, brings water and wastewater services to 13,5 millions inhabitants.[...]Today, Suez holds 21 joint-ventures in China, managed by Sino-French Holding and 165 plants, built by Degrémont. These two subsidiaries have just been ranked on the top in a national survey in the “Most considered society in the water field”category for Sino-French Holding and “Best environmental engineering society” for Degremont.[...] In 2006, Sino-French Holding created Chongqing Sino-French Investment Co Ltd., the first society of investments in water field.

The Group also wants to take the great position in the market by developping new primary settling and filtration processes in two sites, including the one in Nanshi where the Universal Exhibition will take place in 2010 at Shanghai.
